Smoke in the Mirror

One week is gone! Just like that! A pretty happening week with an attempt to get some sun by swimming, signing for my first proper job, soaking wet photoshoots, not to mention bright flashing ones too and a long overdue dinner date =) 2 months long, in fact!

Then while i was surfing the net like a mindless drone, an old contact shoved a survey link up my nose in Live Messenger. It was a survey about analysis of “No Smoking” campaign in Singapore. My thoughts… Oooo… Ban smoking! Ban smoking!

Personally, I do really really hate smoking, but not the smokers in person. So if I’m around someone when he/ she is smoking, i won’t stay around for long. =P

Here, are some suggestions for the survey that made me really think for a moment.

Provision of monetary rewards/subsidies/MediSave for successful quitters (With scientific ways to test for successful quitters)

Providing monetary rewards of any sort to an addiction/ compulsive behavior is detrimental in my opinion =/ So like, “Hi! I picked smoking just to quit to get the reward to buy that new phone!” How cool is that? Oh, I quit smoking! What worth celebrating is I got a fund ready for my next smoking marathon! yay! Lalala!

Reduction of the number of cigarette sticks from 20 to 10 or 15 in a pack

I like this one actually! Reduce the number of sticks for that same price! Yay! Jack it all up =)

Selling the new ‘non-addictive’ cigarettes (same look and feel as traditional cigarettes, but are almost free of tar, carcinogens and other toxins)

I LOLed at this! This would help a smoker reduce their tar intake most definitely. Whether it exists, I’m kinda tired to go dig for more info. But for a non-smoker, it’s like saying smoking is no longer harmful! Let’s smoke this new “non-addictive” cigarette and live longer! Why would one reinforce this negative behavior with a lesser consequential alternative? Would the regulation of sale of such a product to a heavy smoker or to a new smoker be enough? I don’t think the effort put into classifying each individual as an addicted smoker or not isn’t very beneficial =/ Let me take five with my Shisha!

So for my ultimate solution, ban smoking. Yeah yeah, why do I hear all the individuals fighting for their right to smoke in the imaginary background. While I fight for my right to breath clean air, and not to hear people complaining about how expensive smoking is in Singapore…

Thank God, I”m not a smoker =)
