LOTR Symphony: Six Movements for Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Soloist

Esplanade LOTR concert

My first concert in the Esplanade! The Lord of the Rings Symphony: Six Movements for Orchestra, Chorus and Soloist performed by Singapore Festival Orchestra, Chorus of the Slovene National Theatres Maribor & Ljubljana and the Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir.

Well, it’s my first concert after all. Please take my entry with a pinch of salt. Overall, I find the concert pretty average. Maybe it was the songs chosen, not all of my favorite ones are inside. Or maybe because I’m sitting at the side, listening with only one ear. Or maybe the score for LOTR OST was pretty subtle, most of the times. Next time, get the middle seats when you go for an orchestra concert =/

But the orchestra played beautifully, the conductor Maestro Markus Huber really entertained the crowd with his conducting. He is really encouraging to the children’s choir. Giving them as many attention as possible. Concertmaster Chan Yoong Han played superbly with his feeble hands. The timpani played by Yeow Ching Shiong was awesome! Most of the time I’m looking at the people playing than the big screen flashing illustrations of LOTR’s stuff. Can’t they like make a little animation showcase to go with the music? Still pictures zooming in and out doesn’t really fit much to the scene.

So nice to see instruments being played in unison! The violins ‘sticks’ (whatever it is called, I’m no violin player), going up and down together with the players moving in sync making beautiful notes =D

Oh, by the way, Mr Seah suddenly fell ill and was unable to come. So we got Terence to come for a free show lol.

So after the concert, we went to the Makansutra place next to DXO for supper with Sean, Sean’s girlfriend (didn’t catch her name lol) and Terence.

A nice first experience. Maybe I should got for a Chopin piano recital some day.
