Earth Day!

Leaves with a point

Like a blade

It’s Earth day today! NGC was showing this show on bees. I love NGC!

About the bees, right. Well, bees are the workforce of Nature. They fly around everyday to gather nectar and, the most important function, pollinate plants. In other words, they help plants to mate and reproduce (bear fruits).

From this little point of view you might think that the little bee does something insignificant. Imagine hundred millions of bees are flying around pollinating plants, to grow fruits, eg apples, pears, oranges. They help with the reproduction of the other certain plants needed by cattle or other animals in the food cycle. In the end, we are at the top of the food chain. The bees help us make food, indirectly.

Sadly, they are currently plagued by a virus. They call this the “Colony Collapsing Disease”. Naturally, there is an in-built defense mechanism in the bees to fly away from the colony to prevent infecting any disease to the rest of the colony. So they just disappear! Amazing!

Large quantities of bees are missing. Less bees to pollinate the plants. Less plants bear fruits. Less food quantities. GG

The End.
